Occupy wall street research paperOccupy Wall Street By Jennifer Pates 2/1/2013 Professor Chester Galloway Bus301 Business Ethics I have to admit that even though the Occupy Wall Street Movement has been all over the news I did not truly understand the stance of it, nor did I really get involved with it. While doing research for this paper I was able to. Over time, the term has become a metonym for the financial markets of the United States as a whole, the American financial services industry (even if financial firms are not physically located there), or New York-based financial interests. A generally accepted version is that the name of the street was derived from a wall (actually a wooden palisade) on the northern boundary of the New Amsterdam settlement, built to protect against Native Americans, pirates, and the British. A conflicting explanation is that Wall Street was named after Walloons— the Dutch name for a Walloon is Waal. Among the first settlers that embarked on the ship "Nieu Nederlandt" in 1624 were 30 Walloon families. While the Dutch word "wal" can be translated as "rampart", it only appeared as "de Walstraat" on English maps of New Amsterdam. However, even some English maps show the name as Waal Straat, and not as Wal Straat. The red people from Manhattan Island crossed to the mainland, where a treaty was made with the Dutch, and the place was therefore called the Pipe of Peace, in their language, Hoboken. But soon after that, the Dutch governor, Kieft, sent his men out there one night and massacred the entire population. Few of them escaped, but they spread the story of what had been done, and this did much to antagonize all the remaining tribes against all the white settlers. Next

On November 17th, 2011, on its second month anniversary, the OWS movement planned a series of organized activities across Manhattan and the five boroughs of New York City, as a demonstration and celebration of its commitment to action. This was not a spontaneous demonstration, but rather a well-organized event with a set schedule, advertised broadly through a wide spectrum of communication avenues, ranging from the blogosphere to Facebook and even posters (see Figure). The activities were organized around three key planned events as shown in the event poster and communicated through social media channels: These events were to be followed by a march towards Brooklyn Bridge to round out this day of action. Through the use of Twitter and Flickr we have created a short movie that shows how social media portrayed the event. You can see the spatial and temporal clusters formed around the corresponding locations at 7 a.m., 3 p.m., and 5 p.m., and then get a magnificent view of the people crossing the Brooklyn Bridge at night. Industries are being consolidated and a few wealthy men are holding the reins. In fact, the CIA allegedly tried to buy all copies of this book when it was first published. Is the title of a new book by Abraham Foxman, director of the Anti Defamation League. Powerful Jews, Andrew Tisch, of the Loews Corporation, and Rupert Murdoch (Jewish mother), of News Corporation, chimed in with “rave” reviews. Of course the Christ-hating Jew, Andrew Tisch, attacked Christianity as the origin and perpetrator of stereotyping Jews as greedy money changers. All this hype behind Foxman’s book is to convince the goyim that “stereotypes” of Jews possessing a disproportionate amount of wealth and control is “false and dangerous.” But we who are not swayed by Jewish babble, simply see the facts glaring in our faces which convince even the casual observer that Jews possess an enormous amount of wealth (48% of US Billionaires are Jews) and use it to buy politicians with names like Blankfein, Rubin, and Weill. Wall Street Jews run not only the White House and Congress, but decide where American tax-payers’ money should go: to themselves through bail-outs or to their overseas investments that buttress former American factories now located in China and India. It started with a Tweet – "Dear Americans, this July 4th, dream of insurrection against corporate rule" – and a hashtag: #occupywallstreet. It showed up again as a headline posted online on July 13th by , a sleek, satirical Canadian magazine known for its mockery of consumer culture. Beneath it was a date, September 17th, along with a hard-to-say slogan that never took off, "Democracy, not corporatocracy," and some advice that did: "Bring tent."On August 2nd, the New York City General Assembly convened for the first time in Lower Manhattan, right by the market's bronze icon, "Charging Bull," snorting in perpetuity. "The traditional left – the unions, the progressive academics, the community organizations – wanted nothing to do with this in the beginning," says Marisa Holmes, a 25-year-old filmmaker from Columbus, Ohio, who was working on a BBC documentary called , about why people rebel. "I think it's telling that, of the early participants, so many were artists and media makers."Even the instigators and architects present at the creation marvel at how things just happened. "It was a magic moment," says Kalle Lasn, ' call to arms had been timid by the standards of the movement quickly taking form. The magazine had proposed a "worldwide shift in revolutionary tactics," but their big ideas went no further than pressuring Obama to appoint a presidential commission on the role of money in politics. In Lasn's imagination, though, that would be just the start. "We knew, of course, that Egypt had a hard regime change where a torturous dictator was removed," he says, "but many of us felt that in America, a soft regime change was possible."Possible, but not likely. The idea of liberals doing any sort of research, let alone "really good research," is nothing short of absolutely laughable. The fact that Joan Walsh had the gall to get up and say that she researched something (or someone else researched it and she's just parroting it without taking a gander into the facts) is humorous enough. While my black family, friends, and associates were hypnotized by his skin color, I dared to consider the content of Obama's character and intentions for my country. P national bus tours included 14 on Tea Party Express. Words don't simply lose meaning by themselves; the meaning is stripped from them through abuse. Unfortunately for real victims of racism, every utterance today is subject to accusations of racism, which dilutes real incidents of racism to background noise. Social movements researchers have explained that gender inequality and hierarchies shape social movements, feminist movements are taking new forms within a variety of institutions and contexts, and contemporary social movements are shaped by second wave feminism, contemporary feminism, and antifeminist backlash. Scholars of gender and organizations have identified changes in cultural beliefs toward gender equality and the greater inclusion of women in the workplace but also the persistence of traditional gender stereotypes and continued reliance on men's leadership in contemporary workplace contexts and the family. Yet, we know little about how these patterns of gender inequality, gender egalitarianism, and new forms of feminism shape contemporary mixed-gender social movements. Emerging as a mass mobilization in September 2011, the Occupy Wall Street Movement (Occupy) is an ideal case to examine gender, feminism and culture. "We are the 99%" became the key slogan of the movement, symbolizing class-based solidarity in opposition to the most wealthy 1%, the government, corporations, and banks. Next
